“When we talk about spirit, we are referring to the life force in everything. Each of us is seen as a spirit who has taken the form of a human in order to carry out a purpose. Spirit is the energy that helps us to connect, and also helps us in ritual and in connecting with the Ancestors” - Sobonfu Somé

Reclaiming Ancestral Wisdom: A Path Toward Healing and Freedom
Growing up in the Black Baptist church in southern Louisiana, there were certain things you just didn’t talk about—spirits and ancestors among them. Many of our elders were taught to see ancestral connections as something “dark” or “evil,” often associating them with fear and superstition. These beliefs didn’t come from nowhere—they were shaped by the legacy of colonization and religious suppression that sought to erase the cultural and spiritual practices of Black, Indigenous, and other marginalized peoples.
Learn More about - Cultural trauma as a fundamental cause of health disparities
For generations, it wasn’t just culturally stigmatized to honor ancestral traditions—it was unsafe. The silencing of these practices, along with the lack of access to culturally-affirming therapies and healing resources, has created lasting cultural trauma. Research confirms what many of us know in our bones: cultural trauma is a deep, often unrecognized root cause of health disparities. It harms by severing our connection to the very traditions, relationships, and spiritual practices that sustain well-being.
Healing begins with unlearning the oppressive, fear-based spiritual frameworks that have been imposed on us. Returning to the wisdom of our ancestors—the tribal art forms, rituals, and practices passed down through generations—is a powerful way to repair what has been broken. These ancient traditions were never just about survival; they were about connection: to each other, to the land, to spirit, and to the timeless wisdom that transcends generations.
Re-Membering sessions are a spiritual reclamation practice—an invitation to reconnect with your ancestral identity and remember who you are at your core. Together, we’ll explore your family’s stories, ancestral patterns, and the wisdom that lives within your lineage. Through ritual, dreamwork, body-centered practices, herbal medicine, ancestral foods, and nature-based healing, we’ll create pathways for emotional, physical, and spiritual restoration.
This is a journey guided by the quiet presence of Spirit, the loving embrace of your Ancestors, and the grounding wisdom of the Earth. It is a return to what was once forbidden, but never truly lost.
And it is here—in this space of deep remembering—that you may begin the most courageous journey of your life:
The journey to align with the feeling of Freedom.
